Grimsby - Louth Railway Preservation Society
The Society (GLRPS) supports the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway by raising funds to support work/projects to be undertaken.
Why was the GLRPS formed?
In March 1978 a letter appeared in the Grimsby Evening Telegraph suggesting that a group be formed with the aim of fighting to keep open the rail link between Grimsby and Keddington Road, Louth. They undertook fundraising and lobbying under the name The Grimsby-Louth Group, and when the line finally closed in the last days of 1980 the name was changed to The Grimsby Louth Railway Preservation Society. For legal reasons the line could not be sold to a preservation society as it was not a limited company and therefore the line was sold to the LWR under its old name The Great Northern & East Lincolnshire Railway plc.
