Locomotives & Rolling Stock
Fulstow No 2 This is a Peckett 0-4-0 [makers number 1749] built in 1928, and is fully operational. It spent its working life at Tarmac at Wirkworth and was restored by Peter Clark at Fulstow before being sold to Great Northern Locomotives Ltd during 1997. This locomotive now operates our steam services.
British Rail Class 08 Shunter D3167 is owned by Lincoln City Council and spent most of its working life at Lincoln Central Station. For several years after its withdrawal it stood on a plinth just outside Lincoln Station. Since coming to Ludborough it is now operational and regularly used for shunting stock and some passenger operations.
Fowler Shunters two were given to the Society by Conoco. A second shunter was also given at the same time but it was necessary to use spares from one to make the main one operational. These locomotives are now not in working order and sit in a siding awaiting repair.
Lion. This is a Peckett 0-4-0ST (makers number 1351) built in 1914. It spent much of its working life at Woolwich Arsenal and later at Wallsend Slipway, Northumberland. It came to us in early 1998 after service at the Foxfield Railway in Staffordshire. This locomotive performed all our passenger duties in 1998.
Moorbarrow [no 47] is a Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn 0-6-0ST [makers no.7849]. This locomotive is privately owned. It was built in 1955 and spent most of its working life at Backworth Colliery in Northumberland. We obtained this engine from Peak Rail and it is presently under restoration.
Colonel B – Hunslet Yardmaster 5308 arrived at Ludborough on the 15 March 2005. It was built in 1960 and called Colonel B after Colonel Bedford who founded the Ciba-Geigy Company of Pyewipe, Grimsby [now Norvartis]. It has full-length platforms on both sides so that it can be controlled by one driver operating the controls from outside of the cab.
Mk1 MBSO Thursday 26 May 2005 saw the arrival of coach Number 62287 from Shoeburyness. Half of this coach is being converted to accommodate wheelchairs as it has double door facilities. It will have freestanding tables and chairs making it a flexible area, which will double up as a teaching area to allow for school visits.
Sentinel June 2005 saw the arrival of this engine from New Holland Bulk Terminal.
