Lincolnshire Wolds Railway Society
In March 1978 a letter appeared in the Grimsby Evening Telegraph suggesting that a group be formed with the aim of fighting to keep open the rail link between Grimsby and Keddington Road, Louth. They undertook fundraising and lobbying under the name The Grimsby-Louth Group, and when the line finally closed in the last days of 1980 the name was changed to The Grimsby Louth Railway Preservation Society. For legal reasons the line could not be sold to a preservation society as it was not a limited company and therefore the line was sold to the LWR under its old name The Great Northern & East Lincolnshire Railway plc.

Footnote: The locomotive featured in the LWRS logo is Ivatt C12 4-4-2 Tank No. 67364, which was located at Louth engine shed for many years until being scrapped in May 1956. Built in 1899 by the Great Northern Railway at Doncaster, she was first used on London suburban services, originally being fitted with condensing apparatus for working through the Metropolitan Line tunnels. All of the class were withdrawn by 1958 and, sadly, none made it into preservation.
