Fowler Shunter Restored |
| Feb 15 2012 |
The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway Society’s working Fowler 0-4-0 diesel shunter No. 4210131 has been completely restored.
Many hours of preparation work were spent on the locomotive’s engine panels, cab sides, roof, buffer beams and the cab interior.
The Fowler’s exterior now sports a smart green livery with black roof, red buffer beams and lining out in yellow. The maker’s nameplates and works plates were also repainted.
Repairs were carried out to water leaks and electrics and a new headlight fitting was made.
The restoration team included Keith Calladine, Pete and Rita Clark, Alf Ludlam and David Neal, with help from Leyland Penn, Kye Robinson and James Wilson.
This class of diesel mechanical shunter was built by John Fowler & Co. of Leeds in 1957 for National Power. When they were no longer needed the locomotives were sold off to Oil Refineries and other industries. Number 4210131 was donated to the Grimsby Louth Railway Preservation Society by Conoco in 1985 and arrived at Ludborough in 1992.
