Signalling Progress

Visitors at Ludborough station may have noticed a new signal has been installed jusy off the end of the South platform.

The new 'Up Starter' signal was installed on Tuesday 20th December 2011 by Leyland Penn, Garth Lewin, Phil Eldridge and Jim Tyers.

Director of S&T Jim Tyers said "This was an early Christmas present from the gang. This really shows progress towards Louth and we hope that it will not be too long before this signal will be commissioned. It's like the others here at Ludborough, a Great Northern Railway somersault signal and really looks the part."

The first photo shows the post being prepared prior to installation and the second shows three of the gang who carried out the work.

The new up starter has since made significant progress by having its arm temporarily attached.

The arm, which is an original somersault arm, was connected up to try out the new signal for adjustments and a trial run of the indication signal. And as you can see in the last picture, it works a treat!

Jim says this is just another step forward in making the reality of the huge amount of work that the railway is currently undertaking.

The next step after this is to install the 3 aspect colour light - which means there is another hole to be dug.! Anybody wishing to help out will be gratefully appreciated.
