Keeping the age of steam alive!

Red Hatters visit steam railway

A group of ladies who call themselves the ‘Seaside Sizzlers’ met for a fun day out at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway on Sunday 7th July.

The ‘Seaside Sizzlers’ are members of the Sutton-on-Sea chapter of ‘The Red Hat Society’, which is an international society of women that was founded in 1998 in the United States for women age 50 and beyond, but is now open to women of all ages. Its main purpose is to provide women with opportunities for pleasant social interaction, both for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. There are more than 50,000 members in the United States and 30 other countries.

The Red Hat Society helps to connect, support and encourage women in their pursuit of fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment and fitness while supporting members in the quest to get the most out of life. Members age 50 and over are called “Red Hatters” and wear their distinctive red hats and matching purple attire to all functions.
The Sutton on Sea group meet once a month and organise fun activities including hosting tea parties, playing games, going to movies or theatre events, travelling on excursions and much more. This month it was a ride on a steam train, in August they are off to the races at Market Rasen.
