Keeping the age of steam alive!

Steampunk Extravaganza

The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway will be holding a special three-day Steampunk-themed event at Ludborough station from Saturday 26th to Bank Holiday Monday 28th May.

“Steampunk is all about mixing old and new by fusing the usability of modern technology with the design and philosophy of the Victorian age, particularly steam-powered machinery”, explains LWR Events Director, Amanda Arnold.

“There’s a high probability that you have seen it or experienced it without perhaps realising. For example, high-tech Victoriana featured in classic films such as “Around The World In 80 Days” and “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and more recently Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland”.

We’ve named the event “Nanty Narkins”, which is Victorian slang for “Great Fun”. So, whether you are into Steampunk or not, it promises to be a great weekend of fun and frivolity for everyone”.

Steam trains will be running hourly from 10.45am to 3.45pm each day. In the Events Field there will be a Steampunk craft market, Performers, Traction Engines, Fortune Teller, Tea & Cakes, side show and games. Cream Teas will be served on the 1.45pm train on Monday. Tickets for this are £12 person, which must be booked in advance online.

There will also be Evening Entertainment with a Bar in the marquee on the Saturday evening, featuring Alice Night Circus. Entrance to this is by ticket only. These are £10 each and are available online or from Ludborough station shop. When you buy ten or more tickets you get two free.

  • Hi, is entry to the event field on the Saturday to look at the steam punk stalls and goings on free entry? Is the steampunk dress code essential to attend?

  • what time does the steam punk event open on Saturday 26th and what time does it close to the public who are not staying for the evening events

    • Thank you for your enquiry. 10.30am to around 4.30pm. Steam trains will be running hourly from 10.45am to 3.45pm.

  • just had visit today with a visitor from Canada and she was very impressed with the railway it was her first time on a steam train she visited the signal box and enjoyed the information fro the signalman thank you for an enjoyable day

  • We went to your lovely steam punk extravaganza this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sad to see so few people attending though…..

Only found out about it by accident, because I have your Facebook page bookmarked so I can check up to see when you are starting your great carboots.

Have to say, we had a huge amount of trouble even finding an event, any event, of any description, that was on over this bank holiday weekend!!!

Never saw any posters around in any of the local shops, or notice boards advertising this, or any other event happening for this weekend???

Come on, people, you HAVE to advertise, if you want to make these events work.

Be sure that, as the general public, we would LOVE to come to your events, but we HAVE to know they are happening in the first place!!!!!

    • Thank you for leaving a review. I’m glad you enjoyed your visit. Although you may not have seen it the event was in fact publicised with paid-for advertising in the local press and on facebook however, I’m sure you will appreciate that this is very expensive and we have a strict budget to work to. It was also widely covered in editorial in the local press, was featured twice in stories on BBC Lincolnshire, and on social media (facebook and twitter), as well as our own website. As with all our events, it was featured prominently in our programme and at the station. Can I suggest that you sign up on our website to receive newsletters to ensure you are kept up to date with information on what is happening at the LWR?

  • Sad to find out all that was happening for this event now it is over. Just come across all this extra information about the weekend now I am writing this review. PLEASE remember, only a very few walk around with their mobile phones pressed to their noses!

You HAVE to advertise, chaps, you have to advertise…..
