Groundworks start on line extension
Volunteers at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway have started work on clearing undergrowth and scraping the trackbed on the three-quarter mile stretch from Ludborough station to Pear Tree Lane Crossing.
The LWR owns just over five miles of trackbed of the former East Lincolnshire line as far as the Industrial Estate at Louth.
Extending the line to Pear Tree Lane will be the first phase of a much bigger long-term project which will one day see steam trains running the full length of the route into a new station on the outskirts of the market town.
The estimated cost of materials such as ballast, rail and sleepers is £200k for Phase One alone and the LWR has launched an appeal to raise funds to insure that work can continue apace.
If you would like to support the appeal you can donate online through our website or call 01507 363881 for more information.

Amazed to see the progress on line extension to pear tree. Well done. Obviously gates on crossing going in, any platform or signal box placement envisaged.?

Stage 1 is to take the line up to Pear Tree Lane but not cross it. Installing a crossing will be very expensive and will come later. We first have to raise the funds to complete the first stage, which will cost in the region of £200,000 alone.
