Oyez, Oyez, Oyez – I name this train ELR50!
2020 is the 50th Anniversary of the closure of most of the East Lincolnshire’s railway routes, which left many communities miles from the nearest station.
Later this year a festival titled ‘East Lincolnshire Railways 50’ will be held at venues across the east of the county to commemorate the occasion.
The official launch of ‘ELR50’ took place on Thursday 23rd January with a special train naming ceremony at Skegness station.
After arriving on a service from Nottingham, an East Midlands Railway Class 158 DMU was named ‘ELR50 – Visit East Lincolnshire 2020’ in the platform, with Chris Baron, Resort Director of Butlins at Skegness, performing the honours and Batemans Brewery and EMR providing the hospitality for guests.
